Create a Shutdown Shortcut in Windows XP

In this trick you will learn how to create a simple and efficient method to instant shutdown your computer in Windows XP.

Step 1

Right click on your Desktop and create a new Shortcut. (New - Shortcut)


In the window that appears you must write shutdown -f -s -t 99

-f - Forces running applications to close without warning
-s - Shutdown the computer
-t xx - Set timeout for shutdown to xx seconds
-c "text" - Shutdown comment (maximum of 127 characters)
-a - Abort a system shutdown

Create a Shutdown Shortcut in Windows XP

Click Next and name your file shutdown.exe


Step 2

Very easy. Now if you want to change your file icon, right click on it and hit Properties. Go to Shortcut tab and click "Change Icon", and choose your desired icon.


If you want to abort system shutdown, create another icon and write: shutdown -a
